Mix tip #1

I’m mixing an album for a jazz band, and today I developed a nice and fast method which I will surely use more and more. Quickly go through the song, leveling with the clip gain to correct the instrument levels, and then with your volume automation, you can add-in the subtle nuances.

This way you can be extremely fast. Simply select the area you would like to correct, and use ctrl-shift up or down arrow to adjust the clip gain of the highlighted section. When you’re ready, you’ve got everything in the ballpark, so you can move on to the real small movements, enhancements. Grab the faders and automate the necessary things.

For me, it is a huge time saver, hope you’ll find it useful.

Thanks for the tip, that’s really convenient. Also. if you select a portion of a clip and hold Ctrl+Shift, you can then adjust clip gain by simply swiping left or right on your mouse or trackball.
