More and more AAX news

I assumed that this would happen. First Avid gave us some new AAX plugins and assured the community that many 3rd parties are already supporting the new format. But at that time we really didn’t know how the 3rd parties will react to this change. Huge upgrade fee? Free upgrades? My initial thought was that the plugin companies won’t charge us for this update, but I could’ve been wrong. Then the first news heard that McDSP will offering free AAX updates for their customers. And today the same is happening at Softube.

Here’s the official statement:

“Today we are releasing 20 of our plug-ins for Avid’s new Pro Tools format AAX. 15 of the plug-ins are also available in the new AAX DSP format. And it’s a free update!

Softube is the first major plug-in developer to release a substantional amount of AAX plug-ins for both DSP and Native. If you are a Pro Tools 10 user, this update is a no-brainer. Projects with existing RTAS or TDM plug-ins will automatically and smoothly switch to AAX, or AAX DSP if you have the new HDX card. DSP versions are included with the native license and do not need to be purchased separately.”

I hope that the rest will follow…:)

At first when I heard the news: Moog was about to create an iPad app, frankly I was very skeptic. What would they do? I thought to myself. Still there are really only a few developers really understand iPad and its inner capabilities, but those who nail it, really make something incredible. Moog is among those few who got it right. I know they created this with the musicians in mind, but sound design is all about creativity right? So, animoog is for sound guys too.

Transition to AAX

The debates about the industry standard DAW has never been so vicious. Pro Tools 10 is probably the latest release that supports RTAS and TDM. The new futureproof format is AAX (Avid Audio eXtension). The transition started, but we, users still don’t know many things about the upgrade paths, prices, etc. Many shallow observers think that Avid is playing a weird game with us, though the fact is: this is an absolutely necessary move. And in my opinion, Avid is in the 24th hour with this transition. There are many sort-of-right information floating around, but now we can face the truth.

Massey plugins news

Steven Massey got news for us. The guy who showed the world how every plugin company should operate, has very interesting news. Updates, upcoming new products and even more. Some of these were shown at this years’ AES show.

First, just a few words about my thougts on why I consider Steven the hero of the plugin industry. First of all, he’s honest. He doesn’t overhype any of his plugins, doesn’t make you believe things which aren’t exist. The pricing of his plugins are actually more than friendly, but still, the quality of them surpasses their expensive counterparts many times.
